Once called Bytown, it is the nation's capital and the country's fourth-largest city.
2 Toronto: The most populous city in Canada and the fifth most populated in North America.
3 Vancouver: Originally called Gastown, it sits on the west coast, in the province of British Columbia.
4 Montreal: Largest city in Quebec, the city's main language is French.
5 Calgary: Famous for its annual 'Stampede' rodeo, it is in the centre of the prairie lands of Alberta.
6 Halifax: The capital of Nova Scotia, it was named after the 2nd Earl of Halifax.
7 Quebec City: In French it is Ville de Quebec, and sits on the St Lawrence River.
8 Edmonton: The capital of Alberta and home to the famous Edmonton Oilers ice hockey team
9 Regina: Named after Queen Victoria, by her daughter Princess Louise, it is the capital of Saskatchewan.
10 Winnipeg: Founded by Scottish settlers, it is the capital of Manitoba.
