SO Frank Harvey (Letters, April 28) thinks it is a waste of money to build the new Southern General Hospital here in Govan, "an isolated spot, next to the sewage plant. Serving only a few!"
I think it is a brilliant idea.
This part of the city, has been slandered for years by those who have never been. It is a well kept secret by those already residing here.
We have everything on our door step. Great history, good housing, both new and old and affordable to buy or rent, good shopping i.e. Braehead, Ikea, Asda, Partick, Byres Road and the city centre. The latter all within a short subway or bus journey. Glasgow Airport 10 mins drive away. Also good schools, health centres and utility/service amenities, including an excellent recycling and refuse centre. Not forgetting an excellent existing hospital.
Reader Poll Should a pub licence holder always need to be on the premises?
Yes 31.3% | | No 67.2% | | Don't know 1.6% | |

The regeneration of the River Clyde and adjacent river banks is having a tremendous influence here, with the new media/film centre and ancillary industry users, BBC, STV, Science Centre and housing.
So Mr Harvey, my advice to you ..is move to Govan.
MR, Sunny Govan
East Kilbride plea
I READ last week's articles on Hamilton with interest. Hasn't the town done well as part of South Lanarkshire? It is now flourishing. A pity the same can't be said for East Kilbride.
Our once well-kept town has been sadly neglected since the council amalgamation. Every spare bit of land has been sold off to raise money, including our Village School.
It is plain to see where the money has been spent.

Disgusting buses
REGARDING the recent discussion about the cleanliness of First Buses. There are two major problems; food and drink and free newspapers.
Far too many papers are made available on every bus and they end up lying all over the floor.
On food and drink there should be a total ban.
The usual suspects trail to the back of the bus with their drinks and takeaways and what's not consumed is left on the floor or seats. All in all, one hell of a mess.
I travelled on three First Buses in one day last week and each was in a disgusting state.

Knickers to council
I HAD to laugh at your story regarding lingerie firm Agent Provocateur having to wait six months to submit new taxi ads which didn't offend council bosses.
The old ad, featuring long legs, high heels and briefs didn't offend me and I'm a 52-year-old woman!
What about all the cabs,
licensed by the council, which advertise pole dancing and lap dancing clubs? How come they were passed and the old ads were not?
I think it's a disgrace that lap dancing is okay but sexy underwear isn't. What is wrong with the world?

Landlord register is just a money-maker
THIS scheme is to make the Government and council money and for no other reason.
It's utter nonsense to suggest it's rooting out rogue landlords.
No checks are being carried out on the properties themselves. Councils up and down the country are not asking for any relevant information.
The only thing they are checking is that you have no criminal convictions, and therefore are a fit and proper person'.

This is a front operation
AN accountant friend told me this whole scheme is being driven by the Inland Revenue. It's a smoke screen for the revenue to find out who owns what.
He assumes tax returns will be checked to see if income has been declared historically.

Innocents pay as usual
THE whole system has been
chaotic from the start, with computer crashes and badly designed online application forms.
From what I can see, the only people to sign up have been the responsible landlords.
As usual, the innocents end up forking out for a useless bit of paper while the bad guys carry on as before.

Cheap trick for tax man
THIS is just another fishing
exercise for the tax man to see who owns what.
It's a cheap trick if it's used to pursue hard working people for tax on properties they have already bought and paid for from taxed income.

Register is easy to fool
WHAT'S to stop rogue landlords using a front person on the
register? Nothing!
Law abiding landlords are forking out for a system that does nothing for the safety or security of tenants. It's just another money maker for the council.

It's a protection racket
I BET there is someone sitting in a plush office somewhere, with a fat expense account and a gold plated pension who administers this tax.
It's a protection racket dressed up as Health and Safety.
