OPINION: Train firms must be fair to the fans

IT'S outrageous that fans with rail tickets to Manchester for the UEFA Cup final could be prevented from boarding trains.

People have bought open and saver tickets in good faith and to tell them at this stage they may not be get on unless they have reserved seats is unacceptable.

With thousands of fans due to travel, this is a recipe for chaos as the weight of numbers who will turn up expecting to travel will be overwhelming.

The obvious answer is to put on extra carriages and, if necessary, additional trains.

Fans will start travelling at the beginning of the week so the train companies have time to face up to their responsibilities, fix the problem and avoid chaos.

Revive East End with 'wow factor'

BREATHING new life into Glasgow's East End is essential if the city's economic revival is to continue.

And the man put in charge of it as the boss of Clyde Gateway, Ian Manson, recognises this when he says he has to create a "wow" factor for the area.

Brownfield sites have to become economically viable again if jobs are to be created.

Unemployment rates in the area are high and getting people into the labour market will re-invigorate the whole community.

Mr Manson has been given a head start thanks to the Commonwealth Games - now he must deliver his "wow" factor pledge. behind.
