SAUCHIEHALL Street is a busy street, famous well beyond the city, but it is in need of a boost to help the businesses thrive again.

The vote to approve a BID means the businesses themselves are contributing their own cash to projects to improve the appearance and market the street far and wide as a destination.

Rather than wait for others to come along with an idea and funding, they must be commended for putting their money where their mouth is.

The success of Buchanan Street, book-ended by the shopping centres, has often been said to have had a negative effect of the other main streets.

If Sauchiehall Street can replicate the retail success of its illustrious neighbour with its own entertainment and leisure plan then it will be on to a winner.

Creating a specific identity for the section of the street and making it more pedestrian friendly are ideas that will make it more than a collection of bars and restaurants.

If it is a success it must be considered by business owners and council leaders for other parts of the city willing to invest in their own future.

No business can afford to stand still and wait for customers to simply come through their doors.
