Sighthill has never had it easy.
For years it has been a byword for social deprivation, poverty and violence.
But the high-rise blocks which once blighted the area will soon be a thing of the past.
And a bold £250 million plan to rejuvenate the estate has, at last, given local residents the hope of a brighter future.
Glasgow City Council are today expected to give the go-ahead to the scheme, which will provide 800 new houses, a range of community facilities, improved transport links, new schools and accommodation for students.
There will also be green spaces built into the masterplan - places for the local children to play and run off their excess energy.
It is a far cry from 10 years ago, when Sighthill was dominated by the Pinkston tower blocks, the remaining two of which will soon be demolished.
The fact the scheme is coming to fruition is to the great credit of everyone involved.
It means the mistakes of the past being eradicated and public money being spent as it should be - helping to make life better for the people of the city.
