THE new ScotRail franchise promises much in terms of new trains, better stations and cheaper fares on some routes.
While politicians argue about whether the deal should have been delayed to allow for the possibility of a not-for-profit deal further down the line, it was not possible now and a firm had to be appointed to run the network in the meantime.
The most pressing issues for passengers are reliability and affordability, with many unhappy with the value for money the service delivers.
Keith Brown said the Abellio deal was the most cost effective and delivered the best value for money and that is what passengers want to see, not just for the public purse but their own pocket.
The flagship improvements will be welcome, what is also required is improvements to the local commuter network, which often sees delayed and cancelled trains, crowded platforms and a lack of information or alternative transport provision.
Glasgow needs a quick, efficient, integrated and affordable transport network to keep the city moving, if Abellio can deliver that, it will have the backing of the people that matter most, the passengers.
