IT is not only when answering the door that people need to be ever-vigilant and aware of bogus callers.

Those intent on scamming people out of their cash will try any trick in the book but pretending to be from Citizens Advice offering debt advice, only to be looking to steal from people, is very low indeed.

Citizens Advice never call someone out of the blue so people can be sure the person on the other end of the phone is a fraudster.

No-one should ever call asking for bank details to be given out and if anyone is ever in doubt of the genuine identity of a caller, then end the call and report it to police or trading standards.

The more information is known about these people and the nature of the scam they are trying to pull the better it is to guard against them and hopefully catch them.

Whether it is con men at the door pretending to be from the gas or water board, or someone on the phone claiming your computer is at risk or offering to help clear debts, the message has to be the same.

If you are in any way suspicious of their motive or they can't provide identification you know what to do. Send them on their way.
