FOR many of the visitors to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games, the first taste of the city they get will be the airport.

The £17million worth of improvements to welcome our new guests, however, will last long after the sports stars and their followers have left.

The new arrivals hall is one of the many upgrades happening to facilities all over the city that will benefit people in the city in the future.

Glaswegians returning from holiday will also pass through the new hall and enjoy a brighter welcome home.

Whether it is the airport or train stations or sporting and leisure facilities, the city will have a different look and feel as a result of the Commonwealth Games coming to town.

The athletes are arriving and moving into their residences at the village in Dalmarnock, which will be transformed into houses after the events.

The velodrome and the Emirates arena have already been open for the public and the bowling greens at Kelvingrove have been turned into top class competition standard.

All over the city, the work being done will last long into the future for our citizens and visitors to enjoy for years to come.
