EVERYONE knows Christmas brings about financial pressures and many people are left facing January with little cash to spare.
The charities that organise food banks in Glasgow are more alert to this than most and are expecting more people to be seeking help.
It is not as simple as people overspending and not prioritising, as many will have little or nothing to spend on presents or festive food and drink.
Instead, the holiday period brings with it periods where benefits or wages are paid early and some will end up in financial difficulty.
The citizens of Glasgow have shown they are generous when donating to food banks and ensuring stocks are sufficient is important again, not just over Christmas, but the following month.
The Evening Times is supporting food banks and wants to see co-ordination of efforts across the city to ensure stocks are available where and when needed.
We also want to ensure that no-one is stigmatised for having to rely on charity donations for food when they fall on hard times - whether at Christmas or at any other time of year.
