THE new law on drink driving in Scotland removes any ambiguity about how much it is safe to drink and then drive.

The answer is none, as one drink is now enough to put you over the limit - so it is clear, don't drink and drive.

The statistics remain the same, and the likelihood of being involved in a crash is the same if you are over the new reduced limit.

The advice from the police is consistent and the public information campaign tells people straight that one drink puts you overthe limit.

Police have warned the new tougher limit could see 35 more drivers a week falling foul of the law, but with the clarity it brings it should quickly see a reduced number if people see sense.

For those who ignore it and drink then drive, there can be no excuse and the punishment remains the same, losing your licence and risking jail.

The consequences for someone unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident they cause can be far higher, with serious injury or death an all too common outcome.

It has never been more clear. Don't drink and drive.
