The screens are not down yet as work continues, but from our picture looking down from above you can see that is what is happening and it's nearly complete.
Except it's not - because after the Commonwealth Games there will be another project looking at a long-term revamp of the square.
The last attempt at re-modelling George Square was a fiasco, ending in the contest being scrapped and grand plans abandoned.
When it comes to looking at the future of the square next year there has to be one certainty.
The views of the people of the city must be the starting point before any discussions take place in the council or with planners and architects.
George Square belongs to Glasgow and the people have said how they like it.
They like easy access to the square, they like the statues and the greenery and they like a surface which is not hard on the eye or filled with puddles in the rain.
Tempting as it is to draw up plans to make the square a grand civic statement, it must meet the approval of the people before anyone else.
