GLASGOW has seen some tremendous sporting action this year as some of the biggest names in sport came to town for the Commonwealth Games.

Some of the top runners were back for the Great Scottish Run, but the day belongs to the thousands of men and women who run for their own personal goals, fitness and to raise cash for charity.

The annual event is the culmination of months of training, pounding the streets in all weathers pushing their bodies to the limit striving to reach the distance whether it is the 10k or half marathon.

To all who achieved their targets, personal bests or completed the run for the first time, congratulations and to everyone who took part in the race, organised or volunteered to ensure it went smoothly, well done.

The Great Scottish Run is one of the highlights of the running and sporting calender in the country and once again with television coverage the images of the city and its people out cheering the runners on will be beamed around the country.

The run is more proof, if it were needed, that Glasgow is still miles better - mile after mile after mile.
