EXAM results in Glasgow schools have been improving year on year with more pupils getting better grades.

Once again, this year’s results day, when pupils and parents wait anxiously for the post, has ended happily for more pupils.

The results are the culmination of the hard work of the pupils and their teachers and they are all to be congratulated.

Glasgow still has a long way to go to match other areas, many of which do not have the social disadvantages that can affect education to the same extent.

There have been many programmes developed to address this and ensure deprivation is not a excuse for poor educational attainment.

Efforts must continue to be made to ensure every child has the best opportunity possible to realise their potential, and early years initiatives to give the best preparation for learning must be pursued.

Whether the next step is higher education at university, further education college, vocational training or into the world of work, our schools are where our young people will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to make their way in the world.

With the right support and ensuring investment in education is a priority for all concerned, the results of Glasgow’s pupils can improve even further.

For now, let’s simply say ‘well done’ to the class of 2015.
