What a difference it makes to have the Kelvingrove Bandstand back as an asset for the city.

It was a tragedy that this venue was allowed to deteriorate.

I pass along the walkway often and seeing it in such a state almost brought tears to my eyes.

The transformation now is incredible and it's been wonderful to see artists of the calbre of Teenage Fanclub and Steve Earle there.

It is a welcome addition and let's hope it is well used.

Travel misery

I had a great night at the Edinburgh Festival on Thursday but my enjoyment was tarnished by the train journey home to Glasgow.

The 11.30pm service from Waverley was standing room only with dozens of people - many of whom were foreign tourists - forced to stand in the aisles.

Surely extra carriages could have been put on to cope with the obvious surge demand at this time of year

Re Kelvingrove closes before debate: "Make arrangements to visit one of our other museums"?

Is Councillor Graham unaware that Kelvingrove is one of the very few that are actually open on a Monday due to cutbacks?

City buzz

Re Merchant City makeover: I remember it was genuinely vibrant when the train station was open.

Students are temporary and biz folks will hardly be there.

Let's hope the building on the Trongate is done tastefuly.

High there!

Ant and Dec put on a fantastic show with their Saturday Night Takeaway.

My only criticism would be that the cameras that showed the audience never once left the floor area leaving the rest of us in tiered seating a bit left out.
