THE state of parts of Alexandra Park and the ponds are a disgrace.

Parts of the park are overgrown, wild and litter strewn, the ponds are filthy and have a litter problem as well. The speed limit is 5 mph which is ignored by both visitors and employees, I mean the grass cutters go faster than the 5 mph limit.

I think that all motor vehicles should be banned from entering the park.

Employees should go back to basics, never mind driving around the park give them wheelbarrows to carry their tools in that way visitors, children and animals would be safe and the litter strewn. Overgrown areas wouldn't exist.

THERE'S no doubt traffic pollution in Glasgow is unacceptable however improving the situation requires first identifying offenders.

All too quick to blame buses, we never hear about taxis idling on Hope Street and at Central Station obstructing bus stops so buses have to block the road keeping other traffic idling. Nor do we hear about the city's traffic management which funnels traffic onto fewer streets and keeps buses idling at traffic lights in central Glasgow.

Yes, buses contribute to the problem but modern vehicles have lower emission engines at no small cost to the industry. It will take a combined effort from all involved. The solutions exist. Does the will?

I'VE passed three cemeteries in Glasgow, note private contractors fixing council walls. Is it beyond the councils imagination to use offenders to tidy up these places, fix the council walls, paint the fences and remove the litter.

I WAS truly moved by the scenes at the funeral for the unnamed baby. To see hundreds of people turn out his funeral was a lovely thing.

It is a very sad story, but there has been a real strength of feeling to do right by this little lad and lay him to rest.

From the young piper who played at the service to the lady who made him a little outfit it is very touching that people have taken the time out to do this.
