IF any of the readers are seeking an uplifting day out, I recommend they volunteer to help with the Glasgow Taxis Outing to Troon.

I was fortunate to be invited along this year and can vouch for a wonderful day.

The efforts put in by the Glasgow Taxi Kids Outing team, the volunteers, drivers, police, donors, people of Troon and those waving the convoy on their way is outstanding.

Their commitment and energy to give the children a great day out is remarkable. The smile on every child’s face makes for a perfect day.

Many thanks Jo Reid for inviting me and I’ll be there next year.

WE had a great tour of Central Station. The recent tour we went on with Vic as our guide was very informative.

I did get a whole new aspect of Victorian life and war time stories.

We got underground and learned about the steel columns above us, and the glass that surrounds the area.

It is a worthwhile tour to take.

REGARDS council cuts - words fail me on this mob. They spend, spend, spend on the Commonwealth Games and put lives at risk by cutting essential services for the elderly and disabled. And to blame wage rises.

Ask any ordinary council worker, not your high heid yins, if they see any difference in their salary. Sooner Labour at punted out, the better.

They could try raising the council tax - if the SNP let them.

Funny how the SNP aren't mentioned at all in this article. The casual reader might get the impression the SNP have no part in this at all.

GREAT to see so many people being congratulated on their efforts in their communities. Your South Side community champions event really brings out the best in people and inspires you to do more.

I am always humbled reading about what some people manage to achieve and don't where they even find the time. Well done to all the worthy winners and runners up.
