I LIKED your picture of the net curtain seller at the Glasgow Barras in Wednesday Memories.

One Saturday I stood there in my fake fur coat, and called out to the man, ‘Do you have a 54” drop with a matching 36’? He looked round the crowd and shouted: `Will you listen to Lady Muck here in her fur coat! Whit dae you think this is, hen? Terleys!”

The crowded were in stitches laughing, myself included, and he soon found my matching curtains.

He went on to say some of his curtains were so long they could come down the window, across the carpet and up on the bed as a bedspread.

“Or”, he said, “You could hang it oot the windae and it wid dae the wummin doon the stair as a pelmit.”

Fantastic Glasgow patter!

A star signing

My mum worked for Pathe News in Union Street ( a long time ago) and when she was out at running an errand George Cole came in to visit the office.

She missed him but her friend got him to sign a brand new pack of knickers that were in her drawer that she had bought when she was out at lunchtime!

I always remember her telling me this story!

No need to pay

In relation to the story about residents near Red Road getting £100 to leave on the day of the flats’ destruction, (Evening Times, Wednesday) why pay them anything?

Just make them aware that they cannot sue for any personal injury, etc.

Count the pennies

The Red Road story quotes Tina Suffredini as saying “I don’t know if £100 is enough – we’ve had to put up with a lot of disruption over the years.

“The costs add up really quickly when you’re away for the day.”

My advice – don’t go too far and don’t spend too much, keep the costs down – remember it’s some others’ money you’re spending.

And keep the receipts to let us know how much you’ve spent.

Lucky to get £100

In relation to the Red Road story, £100 seems more than fair to me.

But, as usual, there are greedy people who will always want, and believe they are entitled to, more.

What do they want instead?

An all expenses paid fortnight at Disney World Florida?
