WHY does the council still refer to Sauchiehall Street, Buchanan Street and Argyle Street as the Style Mile? Have they actually seen the state of Sauchiehall Street and Argyle Street lately? They are anything but stylish. And let's not even get started on poor Union Street which has been left by the way side.

Shabby and drab are not sufficient words to describe the state of these streets. Empty units, pound shops, buildings which have lain empty for years and covered up by scaffolding do absolutely nothing to make the city look inviting and attractive. Fast food shops that are well past their sell by date and ugly bins sitting on the pavements with disgusting rubbish strewn about.

Maybe if the council put their heads together and came up with a proper plan on how to save our once grand streets they would be entitled again to refer to the three streets as The Style Mile. At present the only street worth mentioning is Buchanan Street and let's hope that doesn't go the same way as the other two.

I HAVE always thought that the Conservative Party would welcome Scottish independence. I had this wee thought its an old one that re-surfaced and an answer to some Conservatives, I have always thought that Scottish independence should be part of the Conservative mindset.

My reasoning is simple, personal responsibility means taking charge of ones self, ones house, work, local issues, and regional issues then of course your country's issues, independence should be for all Conservatives.

It is the maximum choice is it not?

DELIGHTED to see that the Davis Cup competition is coming back to Glasgow and so it should.

It was a great success and it must make a real difference to the players such as Andy Murray. We have already shown that we can stage events fit for the world stage. You only to look at what we achieved during the Commonwealth Games to show that events such as the Davis Cup have a home in the city.

I am sure everyone will get behind it. I'll be in the queue for tickets.
