I WOULD like to thank Gordon Matheson for everything he has done during his leadership.

He always came over as someone who truly cared about this city. He might have been criticised for some of his ideas over the years and let's not mention George Square, but he has driven this city forward.

We are on a world stage thanks to some of the events we have hosted in the past 10 years. I will be sorry to see Mr Matheson leave. Good luck.

I FOR one will be glad to see Gordon Mathieson leaving.Very little has been mentioned about his savage cuts to social work budgets. When spending a fortune to promote the Commonwealth Games, he slashed the Social Work budget to subsidise the new road being constructed from Moodiesburn to the venue. Not one hole in it.

The rest of the potholes in Glasgow were hastily patched. As a result of his cuts I was billed for £120 for 10 hours per month for a carer "Service Provider".

Our local drop in centre in Knightswood wanted £25 day plus £5 for a meal. It meant many pensioners and vulnerable OAPs were unable to pay and were left at home.

VERY surprised that a professional such as your columnist Janice Bell just joined the majority of Scots and silently moaned her way out of the supermarket Café after dreadful service, Monday's Evening Times.

I would have thought she, at least, would have called for the manager and had the "incident" rectified.

Perhaps it would have ensured that those who followed would get a better service.

FMK East Kilbride.

I HOPE the people of Liverpool turn out in their thousands to give the city's First Lady a great send off.

It truly was the end of an era when Cilla passed away. I thought the tribute piece in the Evening Times with people's memories of Cilla's time in Glasgow was lovely.

It will be a sad day tomorrow.
