POINTS OF VIEW

BAH humbug to whoever at Glasgow Life made the decision to charge revellers and their families coming to view the Christmas lights being switched on at George Square (Evening Times, Wednesday).

They stated this decision was made following public consultation. Oh really? I would love to know what cross section of the public were invited to take part in this ‘survey’ as I, or no-one else I know, was consulted.

There seems to be a contradiction in terms with the majority of people on one hand, indicating support for a fee, while others were opposed as this event is being funded by council tax.

I suspect it has nothing to do with tickets which they claim aren’t used every year but just another way of ‘fleecing’ people who are already cash-strapped at what is an already expensive time.

As usual it will be hard-up families who are unable to afford to take their kids to this great spectacle and Glasgow Life should be utterly ashamed of themselves and go look up the true meaning of Christmas, then rip up the research papers and do a sharp U-turn on reversing this decision.

Let's have FREE lights this year and every other year.

It's for the kids after all and I like to see my council tax WELL spent, not wasted on too many well paid incompetent managerial roles.

I read this and know I never read or saw anything about a public consultation.

So 500 were consulted - who were they?

Charging the public for this is another example of how low this council will stoop to turn a coin.

It's RIP OFF GLASGOW.

What consultation?

I apply every year and I was not consulted.

Yet another way for the council to make money...and they know they will get it!

In relation to the story about Hillington Park church running out of supplies for their doodbank (Evening Times, Thursday), this is a ridiculous situation to be in , in the 21st Century.

This government should hang their heads in shame.

They are inherently evil towards the poor and needy of this country.

It makes my blood boil. May God forgive them because I can't.
