It is debatable whether these flats were ever really any good for living in but when I see houses being demolished I always think of the inhabitants' memories.

Good, bad, joyful, sad, wedding days, funeral days, Christmases, Ne'erdays.

Focus on getting people back to work

I read in one of your recent articles that the SNP are whining about welfare powers, as Scotland would be disproportionately affected by any cuts. What a negative and defeatist attitude.

Surely their policies should focus on getting people back to work and good health so that they become less reliant on State assistance in the first place.

What is in a name

Regarding the story about people protesting against the name of Glasgow's new Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Evening Times, Monday October 12):

The hospital's name? I wish that's all I had to worry about. No need to protest...It was, and as far as I am concerned still is...The Southern. End of.

Lack of competition

Regarding he story about First Bus asking to increase fares higher than it already has (Evening Times, Monday October 12): In the services through Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch and into Kilsyth where is the competition they are talking about?

That's right, there isn't any. No competition and all we will see is a worse service with higher fares, the same applies to Bearsden and Milngavie
