THIS week the Evening Times revealed plans have been unveiled to demolish the former Larkfield bus depot in Glasgow’s south side and build more than 100 homes and at least six shops.

The proposal will see five “retail units”, a “food store”, a “drive thru”, a garden centre and 320 parking spaces built at the Victoria Road end of the site.

Here is what our online readers thought:

THIS proposal looks horrific. A retail park and drive through right in the middle of the city? It looks more akin to a development on the outskirts of East Kilbride or Braehead. Totally unsuitable for a large central Glasgow site. There should be a high density mixed use scheme for this site, with strong urban edges presented to Butterbiggins Road and Victoria Road....not a huge car par. Really hope this proposal evolves into something better, especially as it will be social housing and there will likely be a higher budget available and it will be less dependant on commercial returns.

SCOTLAND is still stuck with 1970s thinking. And yet no doubt Glasgow will give it the ok. Seems only the bus company, (who inherited the site) and the developer will benefit. Elsewhere First Bus is looking to sell the Parkhead Bus depot at Tollcross, again a site they inherited, and again an inner city, albeit East End site. No doubt Larkfield will provide a template for the Tollcross Road. Glasgow the City with no rules.

WHAT is the point of the retail and drive thru' when the current bus lanes will cause traffic chaos at this point. First bus already causing traffic chaos by swapping drivers at the junction of Eglington Street and Kilbirnie Street as buses regularly park in the short left turn lane available to all road users. What about the business owners in Victoria Road who have managed to stay open through the recession and the loss of business?

REGARDS spy cameras switched in in Govanhill, once again the rights of law abiding citizens to go about their lawful business without being spied on by the state has been eroded.

What a horrible thought, kind of feels like a touch of a stasi state, being spied on everywhere you go.Its been proved

CCTV cameras dont stop crime.
