Regarding the story about the council being locked in a stand-off with First Bus over bus lane review:
I worked in the roads dept for 33 years and I am strongly of the opinion that most motorists are reasonable people.
Play fair with them and they will reciprocate.
I agree that the legislation should be simplified and that where there are no buses there should be no bus lanes.
The council is trying to support public transport and I agree with that, but the bus companies should play ball.

Cancel bus lane fines
The solution is quite simple.
Until an agreement is reached the council should cancel any fines outwith the times they are trying to achieve - either that or make them 50 pence.
It is obscene drivers are being fined for using bus lanes when no buses are operating. That is extortion.
Of course, however much they doth protest, the council would find another year of dithering very profitable.

Fine drivers who drive in front of buses
Bus lanes should be in operation 24/7 - however, car drivers should only be fined if they are filmed driving in front of a bus in these lanes.
If there are no buses in the bus lane, then drivers should be allowed to use them.

Govanhill residents "frightened"
Regarding the story about spy cameras in Govanhill failing to turn up any incidents: This area is not safe, the police can say whatever they like, the facts are that the elderly and young alike are frightened walking around here during the day at night.
The plans to put money into doing up four blocks won't make a difference, in fact it will make things worse because it's being done to silence the residents and will do nothing to stop the overcrowding and rogue landlords.
By the time they get these plans put in place the area will be too far gone.
There's a feeling that this place is being deliberately left to rot because it's earmarked for development in the future and property can then be purchased on the cheap.

Cameras missing crime
Fantastic for Govanhill, not so fantastic when the crime spreads a mile up the where there are no fancy cameras or policing to deter them from breaking into our cars our houses.
