It's great to see that Tesco are awarding their 5p carrier bag charge to Greenspace Scotland (Evening Times March 12).

I am confused about how this is being policed as all my local shops/takeaways all charge 5p for a bag but I have no idea, nor do any of my friends know, where this extra charge is going.

I can understand the major retailers being able to account for this extra income with check out scanners but the smaller retailers don't have this technology.

Just wondering...

Why celebrate St Paddy's Day?

Regarding the letter in the Evening Times, March 22, the reader asks why Glasgow does not have a celebration to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

We do not have a celebration or parade of any kind to celebrate our own patron saint's day so why on earth should we celebrate that of another?

Trapped resident had lucky escape

Janet Creelman (who was trapped in the lift of a Glasgow tower block) was lucky she had a mobile phone with her.

Not everyone has them, or not necessarily have them with them at the time.

If you were nipping out to the shop for two seconds you might not take it with you.

Re-open closed hospital

Regarding the story about the former Victoria Infirmary being up for for sale, meaning developers will soon take over the 9.5-acre site in Battlefield: Why not re-open the hospital to help with the need for beds seen as there is so many operations being cancelled at the new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital due to lack of beds?

A solution to housing problems?

Refurbish the Victoria Infirmary and give homeless folk a home.

Because of the shortage of housing it would make sense to make it homes for folk

Business as usual at Queen Street

Regarding the story about queues at Queen Street Station because of works: People who normally stand and wait on platforms now queue outside so as to avoid platform crushing on low level.

Yes minor inconvenience but it's just waiting/queuing in a different location than.

Nothing much changed.

More doctors needed for safe staffing levels

I think to achieve safe staffing levels in the NHS we need to train more doctors.

If we have more doctors then the work can be covered on a sensible shift pattern similar to the nursing shifts and we can avoid having exhausted medics working excessive hours.
