The amount of potholes, graffiti and stickers on the street furniture, including parking meters, and fault in the road lighting network in the city centre is just ridiculous and reflects very badly on the city.

I seriously wonder if the council staff who patrol the city centre area have been told not to report any of these faults so the council don't need to fix them.

Has it now got to the ridiculous stage that the council is now relying on infrastructure faults reported by dissatisfied customer to act as their service monitoring system?

Frank McAveety highlights many aspects of Glasgow life in his recent article.

It would be great if he paid attention to the many letters on the subject of the awful mess parts of Glasgow are in just now.

The litter and weeds all over the place are an appalling indictment of the 'world class' Glasgow that Frank speaks of.

Do council officials not see this mess around them?

It really is time to clean the city up.

HEARTWARMING to see childhood sweethearts John and Margaret Smith still together after 70 years.

All you seem to read these days is about divorce rates going up and celebrity marriages where they cheat on each other.

What an inspiration, John and Margaret.

Congratulations to them both.

Haifa Alshamrani, who fears deportation to Saudi Arabia, is the Chair of Secular Scotland (Facebook group).

She risks her life going back to Saudi where they have sentenced Raif Badawi to ten years and 1000 lashes for setting up a blog critical of Islam.

She is also a very talented student of medicine.

We need people like her.
