WITH addiction to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter only getting worse, we could start seeing clinics to wean people off their mobiles, and back into face to face interactions.

They’re an obsession that are not just eroding peoples social skills, but their ability to interact on a personal level without needing their mobile beside them at all times.

Sad times we live in.

HOLDERS of free bus passes issued under the National Concession Scheme to elderly and disabled people are currently unable to use them on night buses.

Whilst night buses won’t concern those outwith our major cities, it seems strange to city dwellers that elderly and disabled folk should be discouraged from participating in nocturnal life in this way.

Perhaps a priority for our new caring and sharing Scottish Parliament to examine?

READING about Maryhill foodbank facing eviction (Evening Times May 16), the eviction process just does not happen overnight.

First there was an issue about missing money for the security system and now this.

It’s good to see councillor McAllister adding his voice so that something can be put in place because there is no doubt this closure will impact on many families with children.

THE story about 1,000 new bins for Govanhill (Evening Times May 12), will the wheelie bins lure away the army of rats in bin stores, etc?

I don’t think so.

A combined clean up and pest control operation should be launched, alongside an education drive to get people to use bins and other council services for large item disposal.

THE news that Shawlands is to get a public square (Evening Times May 16) is great.

It should be noted that in December every year at Shawlands Cross there should be the Christmas tree and outside Langside Halls there should also be the Christmas lights.

This must not be done away with. It brightens up the area in December.
