So Glasgow City Council wants views on new cycle lanes for the south side - my experience of the new cycle lanes is that there are still many cyclists who prefer to use the pavement or road.

This can be witnessed on the recently opened cycle lane on Paisley Road West where I regularly see cyclists utilising a lane which is intended for use by cars - the road having been reduced from four lanes to three for cars to facilitate the cycle lane being installed.

It's getting a joke trying to turn Glasgow into a cycle city. It just doesn't work and causes more traffic problems.

If people pay thousands of pounds for cars, does the council think people will leave their cars? No way.

Also, not long ago the council needed to make £130 million in cuts - so where did this £5m come from?

A really great idea. Anything to make using a pedal cycle more safe.

There should be more of these cycle lanes created in Glasgow.

If there's to be more cycling it needs to be segregated from cars buses and lorries.

Once that's done, smooth out the hills and keep the rain off and it will be perfect.

Memo to these council geniuses - Amsterdam is perfectly flat, has well maintained roads, has less rain and many more days when it does not rain.

Glasgow has many virtues but cycling there will ever only appeal to a tiny minority.

If you waste money on this rubbish do not ever whine about austerity again.

It's a great idea. Hopefully it works and spreads around other parts of the city in future.

Cycle lanes leading into heavy industrial areas would be good to make these types of workplaces more accessible quicker to get to and safer; then a lot of people wouldn't need cars to get to work or suffer the stress of public transport.

On the A77 between Newton Mearns and Galston road end there is a cycle lane.

Yesterday there were cyclists using this facility built for them. Unfortunately, we saw at least six cyclists who ignored the cycle paths and travelled on the road amongst the motor vehicles one pair riding side by side blocking the approach to a hill.

So what's wrong with these people they wont use the cycle paths?
