IT'S very important women are represented in public life, with regards the story about the SNP looking to elect more women.

Women can offer a different and valuable perspective encouraging women to work in public sectors and to apply for executive roles is essential.

Throughout my working life I've seen workplaces thrive where there is wider demographic of worker.

Hire people because they can do the job and not because of who they know and there'll be a happier office with less resentment because there's little opportunity for cronyism nepotism and favouritism.

Whilst I would not disagree with seeing more women councillors in positions in the City Chambers, I do not wish this to be a case of placing them in these posts just because they are female.

I, and the general public, want people who will listen to our wishes and complaints and fight on our behalf for our causes, be it either men or women.

Please may I, being one of the citizens of Glasgow and female, ask that a great deal of time and thought go into the selection of these candidates and that the right people are put in place to serve us Glaswegians, not just female nominees to assist in achieving a 50-50 gender balance.

The bomb hoax calls to schools - what a huge waste of police time and money if this has been a hoax, which the police seem to think.

The cost of this will hit us taxpayers.

Clearly the idiot who made the calls has no brain if they think this is the slightest bit amusing.

I was so sorry to hear of the 23-year-old man who fell out of the taxi on the M8.

Condolences to the family. A horrible thing to have happened for everyone involved.

A simple doorlock device should be installed in all private hire cars immediately to prevent this from happening again.

Once again, condolences. I cannot image how it must feel to lose a son at such a young age.
