I DON’T often agree with council leader Frank McAveety but he was absolutely right in his assessment of the referendum that need never have happened but for the egos of Cameron and that other Etonian toff Boris. (Evening Times June 5)

They have left the country in chaos and caused untold damage.

The EU is certainly not perfect but when the the reality of EU funding for education and jobs is pulled from under us we will know who to blame but it will be far too late to halt. Shame on them!

I AM just reading the letter from Carol Taylor (Evening Times June 5) and I’m getting a bit paved with people moaning about the council not cutting the hedges and grass.

If people want their grass cut go out and cut it! Easy.

That would save the housing associations a good few quid.

I appreciate that some folk are disabled and unable to cut it themselves, but the vast majority are able and just on the take .

If you don’t want to look after your garden get a flat and let the people who like gardening get a nice house.

I AGREE with Ms Taylor re/housing letters although we’re Queens Cross Housing Association.

They waste a fortune on unread magazines while we have substandard window frames.

I CAN’T help but notice the irony of the Conservative Party’s method of choosing a leader, with their MPs voting in a committee room of the Palace of Westminster.

These are the same political zealots who have spent the past 30 years outlawing Trade Unions from holding workplace ballots.

I MUST admit that I would prefer a Brexiteer to lead the Conservative party, but I was not enamoured by Leadsom's comment about her views on existing EU nationals currently living in the UK.

I believe they should be allowed to stay, but you don't give this commitment up front before any negotiations have taken place. A bit too naive in negotiating skills for my liking.
