WHAT an odd situation we the electorate are in just now.

The Tory Party are electing a new leader who will also immediately take residence in Downing Street as our new Prime Minister.

We are mere spectators in this process.

Wonderful thing this democracy, isn’t it?!

Surely we should be deciding who is running the country by way of a general election?

DAVID Cameron promised, repeatedly, that article 50 would be invoked immediately if the people voted to leave the EU.

When they did vote to leave, Cameron stood down, almost immediately, but delayed his departure.

This allowed the EU flunkies (in the Tories and Labour) time to plot a way of ignoring the peoples vote.

Corbyn says he would act on the vote and invoke article 50. The “Blairites” are moving to try and get him out.

May says she will invoke the article later, but won’t. Leadsom says she will invoke the article “as soon as possible”. Still pretty vague I think. a fair bit of “wriggle room” in that statement.

I PREFER Ms Leadsom as she was a Brexiteer but as we live in a democracy I will accept Ms May if she wins.

And I wont be demanding a re-run of the vote nor will I be flying into Gibraltar, Brussels, Dublin to try to get handers.

Nor will I sign a petition for independance.

I will support the next female PM and look forward to them puttingNicola Sturgeon in her place and telling her a few home truths about democracy in the UK.

READING about the family of Asad Shah saying they will have to leave Scotland following his murder (Evening Times July 8), the salvation for this family lies in the arms of us Glaswegians.

The liberal minded Muslim community, if they are of a mind to, can stand up and show true abhorrence to this despicable crime; not through stage managed photo opportunities followed by silence from the leaders within the mosques.

Giving glib statements to the press just won’t suffice.

Action is required, not the closing of ranks that has been prevalent since this despicable murder of a true man of peace.
