READING about the opening of two tourist information iHubs (Evening Times July 9), why can’t a city as big as Glasgow not provide it’s own Tourist Information Centre?

I’m absolutely astonished that visitors to the city have nowhere to ask about accommodation or trips further afield and, instead, one desk is considered enough provision for all the enquiries a visitor to the city might need some answers to.

Who would automatically think about visiting an art gallery to find out where to stay or eat etc?

Yet that’s what our visitors are experiencing due to the closure of our Buchanan Street TIC.

What information the Gallery of Modern Art did provide was sparse. Absolutely appalling!

To make matters worse, the desk is situated down in the basement library so you need to have some prior knowledge in the first place which is just not good enough for all new visitors.

I AGREE wholeheartedly with councillor Baker’s comments about the Tourist Information i Hubs.

I wanted to contact the Information Bureau (as I stupidly thought it was still called) a couple of weeks ago to obtain some literature.

I found the one in Buchanan Street had closed. When I came home I telephoned the only number listed - was apparently in Buchanan Galleries at that time - answered by someone in Inverness who hadn’t a clue what I was on about but finally managed to tell me it was now in Gallery of Modern Art.

Went to said venue - finally was directed to basement and eventually found a TABLE with a helpful lady sitting behind it.

She assured me this was now the “Information Bureau” but did not have the information I was after.

Goodness knows what impression this Heath Robinson arrangement gives to visitors to the city.

The response from VisitScotland is a load of claptrap.

I appreciate that the extravagant days of huge premises in George Square have gone forever but surely you can do better than a table in the basement of GOMA.

HAVING seen the pictures of the Big G in the Evening Times (July 6), I would like it to go to Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Museum as it is one of my favourite places.

No matter when I visit, whether it be during the week or at the weekend, it is always busy with people from other countries as well as Glaswegians.

There are also the beautiful buildings in the background for visitors to take photos.
