Great Colour Run

SUNDAY morning found me meandering the streets of central Glasgow following a rainbow-coloured, multicultural diaspora.

This was no Orange Walk but the Mela Colour Run.

No aggro, no danger crossing the streets, nothing much for the police to do, but much fun for everyone. And the only colourful language was red, orange, blue and yellow.

One unofficial old codger (could it have been me?) even got a mock cheer at the finish line so felt obliged to raise his arms in triumph as he jogged a few yards!

Next year I will be legitimate and wear the Skittles t-shirt with pride.

It is a wonderful, friendly and well-stewarded event I would thoroughly recommend to the whole family.

'Vital' janitors

I READ with alarm the Evening Times report on the vandalism issue the authorities are now facing (July 13).

The blame lies squarely with those in charge of the janitorial cuts and the scaling back of these vital members of staff.

I stay within yards of a school which, since the janitor has retired, has been the target of vandals and break-ins.

Whenever we have telephoned the police they tell us that if it’s just an alarm going off then they must wait for security firm to attend.

This is a recipe for disaster and I fear that these cuts to services will cost three times more than the so called savings. I worked on the maintenance of schools for well on 12 years and I saw first hand the benefits of janitors being in place.

Any janitor who retires from his house on school grounds as soon as they leave the house is boarded and left to rot.

This doesn’t seem to be a policy which will reap any benefit to the school or surrounding areas

Respect democracy

COME on people of Scotland, we live in a democratic country; in September 2014 we in Scotland voted to remain as part of the United Kingdom. I voted to leave but I accept the will of the people.

Fast forward to June 2016, theUK ( which Scotland voted to remain part of ) held a referendum on whether to remain in Europe or leave, we the UK ( which Scotland voted to remain part of ) voted to leave.

If Nicola Sturgeon cannot accept that, then resign - if she cannot accept the democratic procedure then she has no place in politics.

I have emailed my MSP Tom Arthur who I voted for, but no response. I have also emailed my MP Mhairi Black but as of yet no response.

So I say to Nicola Sturgeon ‘stop behaving like a dictator, get on with the job, we have had a independence referendum the people of Scotland decided to remain in the united kingdom. The united kingdom voted to leave Europe.’

I will not be voting SNP again.
