Aldi - at last!

IT’S pleasing to see that there is finally some progress with the long awaited introduction of Aldi to the Drumchapel area (Evening Times July 25).

I take little interest in party politics, however our local councillor Paul Carey, who has pushed for the introduction of Aldi to the area deserves credit for pursuing this for so long.

Drumchapel is an area that continues to feel the impact of government cut backs, forcing many families in to challenging living conditions, with many continuing to live below the breadline. The introduction of a large employer who will pay considerably more than the minimum wage, will be a welcome addition to the local community, giving people the opportunity through employment to start living, rather than barely surviving.

Workers pay

IN relation to Cordia staff who don’t have anywhere to go during their breaks (Evening Times July 27), they say they should not be forced to spend money on hot food and drinks from cafes in order to keep warm, while evening workers say they often feel at risk as shops are usually closed. Any why not?

Just about everyone else who works for a living has to pay for their own drinks (hot or cold) and their own food.

Dickensian situation

THE council should have checked that their arms length companies - like Cordia - comply with the council’s conditions of service.

It’s Dickensian that bosses get one standard of work and the staff need to do without.

It’s disgraceful that this situation exists at all.

A Labour run council, why were the Labour Party founded ? Oh that’s right, to protect the working class, not act like Victorian landlords.

Jail vandals

READING about the damage caused at Gowanbank primary (Evening Times July 27), the scum that did this must be caught quick and thrown in jail for a very, very long time.

Their parents should also be forced to pay for the repairs to the school.

We don’t want them to roam our city streets.
