THE story about electronic bus signs being out of action for six months, (Evening Times August 1) when this system was introduced it was “supposed” to give us real-time information about the buses.

This never happened.

I am sure I speak for thousands when I recount that I have been waiting for “my” bus and the display said “due in 4 minutes”, then “due in 3 minutes,” “due in 2 minutes”, “due in 1 minute” then “due” and, finally, “overdue.”

Then . . . nothing. No more mention of that bus.

It is as if the Martians had beamed it up to the mother ship, never to be heard of or seen again, and never to be mentioned on the electronic display.

All that the system was (when it was working) was a timetable. It didn’t provide any real information, it just gave the exact same information that’s in the timetable.

Passengers want real information. If you get to a bus stop you have no idea if your bus has been or not. The time table tells you it “shouldn’t” have been, but you do not know.

THE bus display only showed when the bus was due to arrive not it’s actual time.

Many times I’ve been at stops and folk have been waiting for a bus shown to arrive but has never appeared.

Useless system. Better it be scrapped altogether.

THE electronic bus signs didn’t work all that well with disappearing buses.

Given that taxi apps can show you where taxis are in the city, why can’t something like that be produced for buses.

At least you would know where the bus exactly was.

READING about smart meters (Evening Times August 1), I picked up a pamphlet about them in the Post Office.

Reading through it I find that 53 million of these are to be fitted.

As it will cost upwards of £100 to supply and fit these meters, this amounts to over half a billion pounds.

As the energy companies will not spend this kind of money, obviously the consumer will have to pay through higher bills.

Our gas and electricity is not going to cost any less by having a smart meter all they are going to do is tell you how much you are using, but the cost of these meters will be added to it.
