READING about Glasgow’s failing bus service (Evening Times August 22), it is easy to knock the bus service but I think, all in all, that they are doing a good job.

Would I like all services to operate every five minutes, 24/7? Of course I would.

Would I like more routes to make it easier to get around? Of course I would.

Would I like more drivers to be able to speak English and communicate better with the passengers? Of course I would.

Would I like fares to go through the roof to pay for this? Of course I wouldn’t.

My father is a retired bus driver.

Many times he started his shift at 6am, but didn’t finish until 7pm with a three or four hour break in the middle.

How many people would put up with such spread over shifts routinely? Such shifts are there to provide the services when they are most needed but little thought is given to the staff who have to drive these buses.

FIRST Glasgow are not interested in the travelling public-just profit and shareholders.

They revamped services under the umbrella of improvements, changed the numbers and nobody knew what bus they needed to go on. Too many routes have too many via’s.

The old 89/90 is a classic example, remove the circle, send it to Braehead and that will please folk. Wrong. If a bus does not pay, it comes off. Yet we have countless busses on high frequency routes empty. Time for regulation.

THE problem is First Glasgow have a total monopoly on bugs services throughout the majority of the greater Glasgow area.

They need competition and, as such, they should be required to handed over at least a third of their services and not just the low profit ones to competitors to drive a better more competitive service.

READING about a pensioner given an ASBO because friends with a dog visited him (Evening Times August 22), some jobsworth that should have known better considering this was just a visit to this old bloke’s home and it’s not as if he has tried to keep a dog himself.

I’m guessing then that nobody blind lives in this block!

They should deal with the real anti social tenants they have and not pick on some old ill man.
