AS a Govan resident I was very disappointed that the Scottish Government Reporter found in favour of Glasgow City Council over their obscene proposals to penalise local residents, not only with charges but also with no guarantee of being able to park outside our own house (Evening Times September 13).

I have followed the campaign by the excellent G51 Group who have spoken on behalf of residents and have rightly said the judgement is not good enough and will continue the fight. They have my full support.

However, I was most taken aback by the claim by Govan Law Centre by solicitor and self styled “People’s Champion” Mike Dailly that he secured some kind of victory for Govan residents by the reduced charges?

His social media posts and comments would give the impression Govan residents are happy with that outcome.

We aren’t - Mike please roll up your sleeves as there is work to do yet!

AS a father of a wee girl who just started school 3 weeks ago, I find myself welling up with tears reading about this wee lad Lennon Toland. (Evening Times September 14).

Such a tragic accident, but life shattering for the parents.

Hope they get all the help and support needed to cope with their loss.

RIP wee lad.

READING about the amount of money spent on fixed betting machines in Glasgow (Evening Times September 14), these figures make sad reading indeed.

The way I see it, the figure quoted is the sum which is effectively taken out of the local economy and deposited securely in the coffers of the big bookmaking companies,

It’s probably in some tax haven with no thought to the misery and heartbreak caused by these machines.

The government of Western Australia made a proper decision banning them from bookies, branding them a most insidious form of gambling.

Well done ET for highlighting this scandal.

I WATCHED a documentary the other evening showing people have committed suicide over their addiction to these FOBT machines.

One person blew £3,500 in 45 minutes.

Only four FOTBs are allowed per shop, so the bookies open three shops in one street manned with one member of staff.

Horrible things that only encourage the people addicted to become involved in criminal activity to feed their addiction to the said machine.

Ban them now.
