IN relation to the concerns of the less well off people to pay for funerals, I agree that the cost is becoming prohibitive and should be looked into.

However, at my age I have been attending a lot of funerals and have been astonished by the costly largesse of the families involved.

Every funeral or cremation involves, whether very well attended or not, the whole congregation being invited back to either a local restaurant, pub or club to be fed and given a drink.

I was at one particular funeral of a very popular, not rich friend, and hundreds of people turned up. The priest invited everyone to the club along the road and I remember thinking; ‘Oh for goodness sake what if everyone here goes along and has even a sausage roll and a drink from his family that they will be paying for this for years to come’.

Surely its time for people to attend the church or crematorium or funeral home to show their respects and then leave, at no further cost, to the grieving, possibly now up to the eyeballs in debt, families.

As for myself I couldn’t care less about a “good send off’ as I won’t be there to see it.

READING about the latest attempt to get Cordia to equalise pay (Evening Times September 21), where does the extra money come from?

The GMB just rattle their gums and come out with all this rubbish about parity.

They agreed the original points system and when some workers got more than was agreed they are still not happy.

They are just trying to justify their wet blanket existence.

READING about plans to give Scottish Labour more powers over policy decisions and candidate selection (Evening Times September 21), I’ve never heard so much rubbish in a long long time!

Kezia wants an independent ‘Scottish’ party from English Labour yet stands hand in hand with the Tories telling us we are better together under English Tory rule from London.

You couldn’t make it up!

Kezia remember what Enoch Powell said? “Devolution allowed (note the allowed) means power retained”

That goes for your northern branch of Corbyn’s party too!

THE changes to the Labour party won’t make any difference to them in Scotland.

It will stay third after the Conservatives who are now the official opposition to the SNP.
