‘Dead’ service

READING about the petition to save a bus route (Evening Times October 13), thousands are happy to sign a petition on the ‘off chance’ they might need to use a bus once in a year.

The truth is, that service is dead going through there.

The local newsagents wouldn’t stay open if he wasn’t selling any newspapers.

It is a commercial business.

Although perhaps better regulation of bus services would help, as clearly the current set-up isn’t adequate for the majority.

Bus usage

AS secretary of the Kelvindale Community Council, may I thank Pauline McNeill and all her Parliamentary colleagues for their support and actions on the matter of the bus route.

In terms of bus usage I would make just one point.

Regular bus users will now be familiar with passengers just walking past the driver flashing a card - or of course nowadays a mobile phone.

Many drivers just sit there, hands on their wheel, not touching their ticket machines.

These are obviously “recorded sales” for the Bus Company at the time of purchase - but where is the actual “journey” recorded ?

We can all use the phrase “due to falling passenger numbers” but unless this is backed up by actual and reliable figures then this statement is useless.

Worldwide deals

THE majority vote was to leave the EU.

Would it not be more sensible for Scotland’s government to use the next two years looking for deals around the world that will benefit Scotland.

This applies to England Wales and Northern Ireland.

Nicola Sturgeon stop bleating about things that might or not might happen and get off your backside and do what you were elected to do. Run the day to day business. Scotland is in a mess.

We depend on the UK for handouts. Reach out to the world it’s far much larger than Europe.

Kids safety fears

READING about the latest development in the fatal accident inquiry into the death of Ciaran Williamson (Evening Times October 14), kids will be kids and always play where they shouldn’t.

I did the same when I was young. I cringe now thinking of some of the dangerous stuff we done.

My thoughts are with the parents of the poor wee boy.
