Walter Mitty UK

STUPIDITY heaped on stupidity. A week or so ago the Tories in Birmingham offered us a Walter Mitty version of post EU Brexit.

Great opportunities, new challenges, our own borders etc etc.

A real dose of British or English nationalism.

Then, in Glasgow, it was the nationalists turn.

The SNP will lead us to take our rightful place among the nations - a country built on prosperity, austerity a thing of the past.

The fact of the matter is that outside the EU, Britain is up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

Outside the UK, Scotland will be even further up the creek.

Save High Street

READING about the funding worth more than £100million made available as part of City Deal (Evening Times October 19), we exposed rot destroying Glasgow’s oldest street, High Street, in 2009.

We have sat in our rotting shops since, watching our businesses die a slow death.

What is the long-term plan for High St, as no politician from Scottish Labour has even visited to see the damage in six years? Our businesses are on the brink of closure.

Is the council only concerned with corporate business?

Royal pie boost

THE story about Princess Anne enjoying pies from Climie the Butcher, in Inverkip, (Evening Times October 19) brought back many a happy moment for me,.

From 1938 to 1944. our family would spend our holidays at West Kilbride.

We stayed above the butchers shop in a home owned by a Miss Smith. They used to let me into the back shop as the pies and sausage were being made.

I still think of the taste of the pies. The owner and staff were so good to me.

Thanks for the happy memory as I’ve lived in Canada for the past 47 years. It brings my happy childhood days.

Good on Gerard

WELL done Gerard Butler for adding your support to the campaign to save the children’s ward at Paisley.

My three-year-old son has had to be rushed to the RAH on numerous occasions. I feel that the NHS Scotland is putting his well being at risk by shutting children’s wards.

NHS Scotland can you please stop cutting all our health services to move everything to a central point.

You are endangering the lives of the people you are supposed to help.
