According to The Environmental Taskforce they have clean enough graffiti off Glasgow streets to stretch from here to Naples between June 1 and August 31.

During the same period the team removed 6402 piles of fly tipping.

When you ask them how many people were prosecuted for either offence there is a big fat silence.

Prosecution numbers are the only figures that matter and until they are in the thousands, council tax payers will continue to pay the astronomical cost of lifting tons of fly-tip and cleaning thousands of miles of graffiti in this city.

I see in your story in Monday’s paper about the bus stop outside Barrhead Travel that there is more bother about the Fastlink bus service.

I sympathise with people and businesses that are against the new route.

But I think it is going to turn out to be one of these things that is controversial in the planning and development.

Then, once it is in place, people will get used to it and forget the time it was never there.

Such is life.

I was horrified to read about the two police officers who were run over.

This should not be the type of thing that happens in our city.

The police are out in areas like Knightswood to keep people safe, not face brutal and senseless attacks like this.

I hope the people responsible are found and appropriately punished.

And I hope no one in their community who knows what they have done hides them.

Glasgow’s Sports Person of the Year Award is a great chance to honour the people who are grassroots making a difference.

It’s always good and exciting to see big sporting events come to the city but the people who are out in the community encouraging young people to get involved are the ones who make the most difference and get the least praised.

I hope there are lots of nominations for local people and good luck to those who are put forward.

The Squinty Bridge that fell apart and had to be repaired is the symbol for Glasgow? Well done.
