Too many faults

I WAS interested to read recent correspondent Bill Love’s observation about how many street lights in the Style Mile area are currently faulty.

I think we can simply add those outstanding faults to the large number of potholes, graffiti, and stickers on city centre traffic signs, lamp posts, bins and parking meters.

The council appear to be refusing to accept full responsibility for maintaining a council asset despite being paid to do so.

Clyde jobs

READING about MSP Bill Kid writing to the Defence Secretary Michael Fallon looking for an assurance over jobs at the BAE yards (Evening Times December 2),

Westminster should give the SNP clarity alright.

Clarity that these ships will ONLY be built on the Clyde if Scotland remains part of the UK and accepts the democratic results of two referendums.

You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Child victims

READING about the Government raising the age of criminal responsibility from eight to 12, (Evening Times December 2), if someone below 12 commits a serious crime then they would be brought before a children’s hearing who would have the power to place them in a secure unit (if that was appropriate) until they were 18.

This would include a holistic approach to why they offended and how we rehabilitate them.

The vast majority of children who offend are victims themselves.

We have the ability to protect the public, protect the child and ensure they don’t reoffend.

Help ‘feral’ kids

IN relation to raising the age of criminal responsibility, let the feral rats dominate and terrorise our streets, wrecking everything in their path and laughing at the law, whilst their parents party or sleep off their latest injection.

Take these children out of the environment they have grown to think of as “normal” and show them love and respect otherwise we will allow a criminal underclass to overwhelm us.

Held to account

IF an 11 year old child does commit a horrible crime then they need to be held to account, be faced with the seriousness of what they have done and be helped to be better people.
