Unit closure

THE temporary closure of the Minor Injuries Unit unit at Yorkhill (Evening Times November 25) will result in the disgraceful situation of there being no medical cover in the west end of Glasgow over the Christmas and New Year period.

Many will struggle to go across the river, especially with reduced transport.

It is supposed to be “temporary”. But how long before Greater Glasgow and Clyde deem the move a cost saving success and it becomes permanent?

Safe Subway

READING about the work going on in the Subway (Evening Times December 15), often someone will whinge that the Subway is closed before they want to leave the pub.

Perhaps this article will show them some of the practical difficulties in operating this 120 year old system.

The safety of the travelling public must come ahead of people’s social lives.

Well done the hard working night shift staff.

Food waste

READING about the increase in litter since the government introduced a new waste strategy (Evening Times December 15), the worst one they have ever came up with is recycling food waste.

When food is not disposed of properly and lies to rot you get insect infestation and rats.

If you can’t get people to dispose of the rubbish in some areas in Glasgow properly, they sure as hell aren’t going to put food waste in a special wee bucket.

Litter disgrace

IN Ontario, Canada, there are deposit schemes for bottles and cans. You simply do not see them in the street.

We need to do something urgently in Scotland to deal with our manky streets!

Unacceptable

READING about the man attacking ambulance staff (Evening Times December 15), the unacceptable behaviour of those treated by paramedics is terrible.

They deserve the utmost respect for saving human lives.

Those who abuse the system with unnecessary call outs or,in this case abuse of technicians on their arrival, need to be given a penalty notice or means of making them think twice.

Maybe then the pressure on paramedics would be cut.
