Failed Fastlink

I READ with interest the article about Glasgow city centre’s main thoroughfare for buses, Jamaica Street and Union Street facing disruption as a result of the failed ‘Fastlink’ scheme (Evening Times January 20).

I call it a failed scheme as it has done nothing to create a fast link to its intended destination, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Instead it has created traffic congestion in areas where there was none before.

It certainly hasn’t made the public transport links any faster, in fact, only months after opening The Evening Times reported that two main bus operators have told their drivers not to use the Fastlink lanes.

The failures of the Fastlink scheme have to go down as one of Glasgow’s most under-reported news stories which is ironic considering it causes congestion on the doorstep of Glasgow’s two main TV stations.

This is all happening in the constituency of the Scottish Government’s Transport Minister too. Where is the public enquiry into the failings here?

Well done!

I WOULD like to congratulate the Evening Times on its excellent ‘Hands Off Our Jobcentres’ campaign.

I, and many others in the south side of the city, have been campaigning since the announcement in December 2016 to save our local Jobcentres in Langside and Castlemilk.

For people in Langside and Castlemilk it will be difficult to travel to the new location due to public transport being expensive and inadequate.

The unreliability of public transport could also lead to people being late for appointments.

From Castlemilk it can take anything from 40 minutes to over an hour to complete the two bus journey.

This could lead to people falling foul of the harsh sanctions regime.

I hope the Tory Government listens to the views of people who want to save their local Jobcentres in Glasgow and reverses their decision to close these important services.

Perfect rugby

I THINK I have just watched Glasgow Warriors play the perfect 80 minutes of rugby.

In beating a rugby giant like Leicester they have literally done the impossible.

For any Scottish team to go into the heartland of English rugby and wipe the floor with them is unbelievable.

The Glasgow team played with not only fantastic team work but speed of thought, hands, feet, ball recycling, and breakdown play.
