'Ghetto' street

READING about Ann Summers shutting (Evening Times February 14), this is yet another shop to bite the dust.

Sauchiehall Street is becoming nothing more than a ghetto, once bursting with beautiful shops, it’s a sad place these days.

Wake up city planners.

Overstretched staff

NOW that the minor injuries service at Yorkhill is now closed I had to take my wife to the Queen Elizabeth Univeristy hospital which was OK.

However, when we arrived we were taken in very quickly and the service was very good.

But, in my opinion, the staff are being overstretched as the information we were given that there was only one nurse for this service at this hospital.

I think the Scottish Government and the NHS should get together and get this sorted out.

Too much graffiti

THERE have been unacceptable levels of potholes and graffiti/stickers on bins and parking meters in the city centre for many months now.

It is obvious the council are doing very little to address this issue.

The council themselves have been exacerbating the situation by attaching A4 paper information notices to poles in streets like Miller Street, Ingram Street and Frederick Street informing us of advanced works and planning applications.

Unfortunately, the people who put these notices up do not return to the streets to remove the notifications after their expiry date has passed and they are left to rot for months on poles in this area.

I don’t believe for one minute that the council staff who work in town every day don’t see these things, but they are clearly not reporting them.

I wonder perhaps if they have been told not to report them because the council computerised reporting system includes an algorithm which automatically records repair times.

Clearly, if less faults are reported then there is less chance the council’s efficiency figures will fall.

Order too lenient

READING about the drunken thug who got a community payback order after he assaulted and threatened to kill a woman (Evening Times February 16), I’m sure women will feel a lot safer now that’s he’s been given community service.

This was a horrific ordeal for the victim, who won’t feel safe out anymore.
