Yet again the globe lights outside the council offices at 229 George Street are burning brightly during morning daylight hours, and have been for the last couple of weeks.

Is it too much to ask if one of the highly-paid council officials could get these lights operating only during the hours of darkness?

Electricity prices are soaring and the last thing the city taxpayer needs is such a high profile public display of money being wasted outside a council building.

Major problem

Glasgow as a whole has a huge problem with ‘fly parkers’.

Where I live near the city centre commuters are using every available space and parking in unorthodox manner just to get free all day parking.

I reported this to GCC and received a reply that nothing could be done as they are not causing an obstruction - this is in a road which has parking meters but lines have vanished after roadworks - even the parking bays which have lines are not enforced by parking attendants.

The area underneath the Kingston Bridge at the Quay is another example - cars are now parking on pavements and remain there all day for free.

Safety concerns

With regard to the cancellation of the South Side 6 running event due to safety concerns, does this mean that the hundreds of Orange Order marches which our city fathers allow each year are to be scrapped too?

Students struggle

If Kelvin College truly intends to invest profits from the sale of Stow College, into front-line provision for the most disadvantaged, why do they keep pumping money into Arms Length Fund?

They, like other colleges throughout the sector squirrel millions away for the proverbial “rainy day” whilst staff and students struggle with cuts and without sufficient resources to run existing courses.

Just not fair

Having read the story about parking charges threatening the future of University Cafe on Byres Road I can see the owner’s point.

Free parking at Braehead and Silverburn. Free parking at nearby Sainsburys and Waitrose. It’s just not fair. They’re very very close to killing what’s left of Byres Road’s character.
