WITH regard to the letters about empty shops in Sauchiehall Street (Evening Times April 4), this seems to be a common issue in various Scottish towns that I have visited.

Paisley town centre which is also becoming like a ghost town with all the shops closing- this is surely a reflection on the struggling economy within Scotland.

If businesses are closing down and going bust now then I shudder to think what state Scotland would be in if independence happens.

BEST SHOP ONLINE

OUT of town shopping centres and the increase of online shopping is a major part of the empty shops issue.

So too is transport. The bus services offered in the Glasgow area is dreadful and if you live nowhere near a train link its either use the car with inflated parking charges or do not go near the city centre.

Personally, I do most of my shopping online. No queues, no transport issues, no surly sales assistants, and in many instances, cheaper goods.

TOO MANY USERS

THANK you Rosemary Keery for your comments about drug users in Glasgow (March 31).

Many older people no longer go out at night for fear of being attacked or mugged.

I’ve evn seen young mothers and fathers who are clearly on drugs with their small children.

I no longer walk my dog on dark evenings because of this.

We are always being told that going for walks is good for our health and mental well-being. Not in Glasgow!

CINEMA WELCOME

READING about plans for a new cinema in Princes Square (Evening Times April 4), it’s about time Glasgow had more city centre cinemas.

The big Cineworld is always overcrowded.

Only the popcorn junk movies ever go on the big screens, if you want to watch a sensible film chances are it will be on the smallest screens.

NOT NEEDED

DOES Glasgow need another cinema? I don’t think so!
