WITH local traders in the West End taking a pounding from parking regulations, and the closure of the Western Infirmary, people continue to shop online, or out of town until it is too late.
Unless people use the small shops in their community, they’ll lose them.
A fine example is the treasure trove: of ‘Ruthven Mews’. Many don’t even know of its existence.
If we want to keep the diversity of such shops then we must start supporting these small traders.

Invest in services
READING about the SNP pledge to increase the Subway if it gains power in the elections (Evening Times April 17), sorry but this does nothing for me.
I want to see road sweepers, vacant shops being sold off and better housing.
I will vote to get Labour out but this Underground thing has been going on for years, thanks but no thanks.

Subway support
THIS Subway plan is one thing I agree with regarding the SNP, the subway should be expanded.
There are a lot of people and areas that a new extension could serve and take the buses off the congested roads.
London gets billions to expand, so there is money for this it could be available for Scotland’s largest city and outlying areas.

Reopen tunnels
SCOTRAIL’S thriving Argyle Line already connects to the disused (national rail) tunnels northwards from Exhibition Centre to Kelvinbridge, Botanic Gardens, Kirklee and Maryhill Central, as well as eastwards from Bridgeton under London Road to Parkhead Stadium/Emirates Arena and Tollcross, both of which could be reopened to further develop and enhance the suburban rail network.
There is also the long-proposed but continually thwarted/denied reopening of the extant Crossrail route which could readily join (the west of) Scotland’s two separate rail networks north and south the Clyde.
The Argyle line interchanges with the Subway at Partick and to a lesser extent at Central/St Enoch - and the Crossrail route could similarly so do with a new station on the Paisley-Ayrshire / Inverclyde lines at West Street - plus a new (Crossrail / Argyle Line) ScotRail interchange at Glasgow Cross.
