GLASGOW is shamed by the figures that show it offers the UK's lowest life expectancy to its citizens (Evening Times April 17).

It is to be hoped that the Commonwealth Games will encourage people to get fit to boost their health - but that is only part of the battle.

The food we eat is just as important.

You only need to walk into a supermarket and see how much space is given to items we are told by nutritionists should be considered treats in comparison to healthy foods, such as fruit and veg, to know that diet is a major problem.

Even better?

REGARDING bus timetable changes -

another "improvement", (Evening Times, Friday April 18)? It's only a short time since the last "improvement."

Real heroes

SO GLASGOW tops the league for statues to sporting stars (Evening Times, April 17).

Jock Stein and John Greig truly are deserving legends. I wonder how many of todays over-paid celebrity footballers will have statues of them - not that many I suspect.

Goods sense

I WAS delighted to see that police have handed over counterfeit goods to charities for sale. (Evening Times, April 18) It makes sense.

Lane lines

REGARDING bus lane fines - I find bus lane signs difficult to read in the dark due to dim street lights small lettering.

The signs are too high for dipped headlights to illuminate, and some are tilted to the pavement rather than the road.

The bus lane in Dumbarton Road, Scotstoun for use by buses heading east no longer has a clear white line marking it in parts, and sections of the white lines in Gallowgate bus lane have worn away.
