hAVING followed Billy Connolly since his Humblebum days, it was a joy to see him perform this week at the Hydro.

At age 70, I'm almost the same vintage as the Big Yin. I just wish I still had his quick wit and the energy to get up and perform.

It was also good to see him laughing about his recent health scares.

He might be gray of hair and beard but he is still as delightfully daft as ever. God bless you Billy

Future plans

Why do the Unionists keep raving on about the majority voting to retain the Union? It was only 6% away from independence, hardly a resounding win for them.

Nicola Sturgeon has aspirations to build a fairer and more equal Scotland, something the Unionist parties have never attempted.

Always remember, Labour caused the greatest division between rich and poor in living memory, while the Tories have caused acute distress with their policies to make the poorest in society pay for the problems caused by the richest and greediest.

Time will tell, but I hope Ms Sturgeon succeeds in her aim.

Diamond pair

What a delightful story in yesterday's Evening Times about the couple who have been married 60 years.

That certainly is some achievement and I doubt we will see many diamond wedding celebrations in the future.

I hope William and Margaret enjoy their milestone event.

Poor cat's tale

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can be so cruel to animals. Your story yesterday about Jack, the limping, one-eyed cat who was found wandering alone in the West End really did pull at the heartstrings.

We are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers but there seems to be an increasing number of cases of neglect. I hope it stops.
