Following on from the Hairmyres Hospital report, who is running the place?

The first inspection was a surprise, but they must have known they would be visited again.

Where I work, we get inspected every year, by an independent auditor. If we do not come up to snuff, we will be told about what problems need sorted.

We expect our hospitals to be clean.

Do the bosses not care? Why are they not being prosecuted for endangering the health of others? Name and shame them.

Access to A&E

Alex Neil MSP is concerned for those in Clydebank, re access to A&E services following the closure of Western Infirmary and the transfer of services to new Southern General, but what about those in the extreme south, such as East Renfrewshire? We campaigned for a proper replacement for the Victoria Infirmary but ended up with a minor injuries unit, which closes at 6pm, with no A&E facility.

Over the years, we have lost the Samaritan, Philipshill, and Mearnskirk hospitals. Even Hairmyres A&E is closer and easier to access than the new Southern.

Union power

Scottish Labour leadership hopeful Neil Findlay has the support of some of the most militant trade unions in the country.

If elected, he will be the death knell for the Scottish Labour Party.

Maybe he's hoping to gain support from those too young to remember how the unions brought the country to its knees in the 1970s.

Proud of Pride

I was surprised by Sydney Devine's remarks about Charley Pride in the Evening Times.

I have been a fan of Charley's for many years. My friend and I attended one of his concerts at the Pavilion some years ago. Afterwards we were allowed back stage, where he signed a photo of for me. I found him to be most pleasant. He is also a first class Country and Western artist.
